The holiday season is a great time to not only give thanks for the many good things you have but also to give back to the community that helped provide them.
If you agree that great transit is essential to our region, here are three important ways you can give back:
1) Apply to join TRU's Board of Directors!
Our Board provides vital leadership for TRU's efforts, setting goals, securing TRU's finances, and ensuring accountability. Board members are also important community ambassadors.
Our Board should reflect the best of the Detroit region: Diversity, innovation and dedication to getting the job done. If you have an interest in transit and have business, fundraising, event planning, public relations or other relevants skills to contribute, please look through TRU's Guide to Board Membership to learn more. Applications are due December 10.
2) Apply to join the RTA's Citizens Advisory Committee
The Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) advises the RTA on transit issues related to their communities, makes suggestions for improvements in transit service, and advocates for greater funding for public transportation.
Attendance is expected at monthly meetings, plus 5 additional hours each month in public education and engagement. Members have opportunities to volunteer for subcommittees and as liaisons to RTA projects.
To apply, complete the RTA's online form by December 16. For more information, email the RTA at email@example.com or call 313-402-1020.
3) Donate to Support Transit Advocacy
We recognize that your time is limited and valuable. If you can't invest your time in TRU's Board or the RTA's CAC, please support our efforts financially! Your donation enables TRU staff to do the critical education, engagement, and advocacy that our region needs to develop a great transit system.
The best way to support TRU is by become a monthly sustainer. It's quick and easy for you and provides us reliable support throughout the year.
Of course, one time gifts are great as well, online or mailed to the TRU office.
As you give thanks this holiday season, think about how you can give back. Then get involved with Detroit transit advocacy!!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving,
PS - The TRU office will be closed on Thanksgiving and on Friday so our staff can enjoy time with their families and in the community. Look for me in the Thanksgiving Day Parade with the all-new M-1 Rail float!
PPS - TRU is Detroit's nonprofit transit advocate, working since 1999 to improve bus service, remove barriers to rapid transit, and advocate for smart transportation investments.
