Next year will be a big year! Michigan voters will decide in May 2015 whether to raise Michigan's sales tax to 7% from its current 6%. IF voters approve the sales tax increase, THEN it will provide money for road repair, buses, trains, the Earned Income Tax Credit, AND schools and cities.
We will be doing everything we can to help it pass, because it will provide $112 million a year more for public transit across Michigan. Nearly half of that will come to the greater Detroit area and $50 million will go a long way in improving DDOT and SMART bus service!!
That's where you come in. We will be mobilizing for this vote, but we can't do it without you. Can you please donate today so we can run this campaign? Your tax-deductible donation will help fund this very important work.
Michigan has not increased the funding rate for transit since 1987 and without this, is unlikely to do so for many years to come. Also our roads, schools, and cities need the investment this package provides.
Our goal is $25,000 in year-end donations, and we've raised $16,000 of that so far. Can you please give $5, $10 or whatever you can today to help us reach our goal and fund the campaign for public transit next year?
Thanks again for any calls, emails, social media sharing, and other efforts you've taken to make this important progress happen. And have a wonderful holiday season!!
