Welcome to fall Supporter! It's a great time to get outside and to get involved.  Read on for exciting ways to do both!

 Michigan Transportation Odyssey

Our friends from the Transportation for Michigan coalition are crossing the state today and tomorrow using buses, bikes, trains, and other transit.  Starting this morning in Traverse City and ending tomorrow evening in Detroit, the group will take a new look at Michigan's transportation system: What works? What doesn't? What's changed and what's stayed the same?

Trans4M is excited to highlight some of the groundbreaking wins across the state: Metro Detroit's RTA and M-1 Rail; Grand Rapids broke ground on Michigan’s first bus rapid transit (BRT) system; Kalamazoo is taking transit countywide; and unprecedented improvements to our trails and greenways. This year’s expedition through the mitten will touch on all these important projects with plenty of chances to follow along and participate, including speaker events, meet-ups, and tours.

The last stop will be the special finale event at 6pm at 1515 Broadway (note location change!!) in downtown Detroit for a special happy hour and conversation about “outside the box” thinking to better connect our city, region and state being hosted by IMG Media as part of the Model D Speaker Series. See you there!!

Help Launch our 2014 Regional Transit Awards at the Volunteer Kickoff Event!

TRU is planning our third annual Regional Transit Awards fundraising dinner - a event that provides essential financial support for TRU’s advocacy, while also recognizing top regional transit supporters.  Business leaders and elected officials, transit employees and activists, the hardest working people in the Detroit transit realm are recognized, applauded and awarded for their contributions.

We need your help to make this event great!

Whether it’s helping find the next beautiful dining room for our event, choosing the categories for the awards, writing press releases, or ushering the award show, we need your to help make the 2014 Regional Transit Awards our best event yet. Review the roles and join the team where you can best invest your talents and skills.

Please RSVP to attend our Regional Transit Awards Volunteer Kickoff event Thursday evening October 10 to learn all about it and get involved!

 Website Overhaul RFP

(As is obvious from our site) TRU needs a website overhaul. We are seeking an experienced web designer and administrator to help in two ways:

1.  Our content management system is proprietary and outdated. We want to move our content and processes to a current CMS with active support and updates - Joomla seems to be a good fit.

2.  A redesign of the basic structure of the site in order to make it more dynamic, approachable, and useful, along with improved security.

We are seeking web designers and administrators with:

·  Experience with Content Management Systems, SalsaLabs and accessibility programs

·  An artistic and functional eye for design

·  Interest/Availability for maintenance work as necessary

If that's you, please review our website RFP and submit a proposal by Oct. 15. Submit questions to RFP@DetroitTransit.org. Thanks!

RTA Citizens' Advisory Committee (CAC) Initial Meeting Delayed

Update on the RTA CAC: some on the RTA Board was concerned that there are not enough Macomb County representation on the approved list of CAC members. While the approved 30 CAC members will remain, the Board may be expanding the group even further to broaden the representation more. The CAC will not be meeting until mid-November. Stay tuned for details as they become available.

And FYI, our website has been hacked several times and we've lost a good portion of the information that had been posted there.  We will be overhauling the website this fall with new information, interactivity, and style.  Please forgive it's lack of detail and polish in the meanwhile!
